Portland User Experience Group

Dedicated to uniting developers and designers.

Mission

next meeting

09.16

This is a group for both developers and designers, but it's not all about eating pizza and singing Kumbaya. The "UX" in the name stands for "User Experience", something which both designers and developers must care about and work on together in order to succeed. We try to focus on the pragmatic and the practical, on things you can use in your day job. The primary goals of this group include:

  • Unity

To bridge both the social and professional gaps between designers and developers. Both these groups work on the exact same projects, yet too many of these projects are delivered to the customer in a less-than-desirable state. The designers secretly blame the developers, and vice versa.

  • Design

To help designers share their knowledge and passion about design, and to help educate developers of not only the importance of look and feel, but also necessity of good behavior and a pleasant user experience.

  • Platform

UX is not bounded by any technology. However, because most developers and the companies they work for live with this constraint. Therefore PDXUX.Net will focus primarily on bringing UX to the individuals who must design and develop software in a Microsoft centered world.

  • Reality

UX applies not only to business software which runs on the desktop, but also to web sites, applications for your cellphone, and even community games for the Xbox 360. The content presented at our meetings will be of benefit to professionals and hobbyists who develop for any of these environments.
