Charting Controls are actually part of the Silverlight Toolkit, which is open source and made available under the M-PL license (an OSI-approved license). The silverlight toolkit is available at http://www.codeplex.com/Silverlight.
4 different levels of support
Charting is right now at a level of "Preview"
Primary advantage of using this charting is "that they fully take advantage of the powerful styling and templating model that's present in Silverlight."
Support for templating and "Dynamic Update"Great example sites, but they take a long time to load.
Full source code to the sample sites is provided online, and in the toolkit download.

"Hands-down the best end-to-end demonstration of the platform contiuum demonstrated thus far. Desktop, surface, Silverlight, (and some stuff I know you couldn't show)...very, very well done."
Alternatives
Biggest complaint I hear is what if you need a gauge / dial?
